1. Update the Windows OS

Step 1 – Hit the Windows icon on the Taskbar, and select the gear icon to open Settings.

Step 2 –Choose the “Windows Update” option. And if you’re using Windows 10, navigate to the Update & Security module.

2. Use Microsoft’s Settings to Create New User Account

An alternative way to set up a new user profile is via the User Accounts window. Follow these quick steps:

Step 1 –Press the Windows + R key combination to open the Run dialog box. Type “Control userpasswords2” in the textbox and hit Enter.

Step 2 –In the User Accounts window, switch to the “Users” tab. Tap on the “Add” button for creating a new user account on your device.

Step 3 –Now, Windows will ask you a few questions about the new user profile, like the email ID of the user, which sign-in mode the user will use to log in, etc.

You can also hit the “Sign in without a Microsoft Account” option placed underneath to skip the questioning part. Hit the “Next” button to proceed.

Step 4 –In the next window, click on the “Local Account” button.

Step 5 – Click on the newly created user and head on to “Properties” to manage permissions. Select “Group Membership”.

Step 6 –From the drop-down menu, select the “Administrator” option. Hit the OK and Apply buttons to save the recent changes.

Creating a new user profile via User Accounts is an alternative way that you can try. Following the above-mentioned steps will also help you get past the “Windows cannot add a new user account” issue.

3. Run the SFC Scan

SFC (System File Checker) is an in-built Windows utility that scans your device to fix and repair hardware errors, replaces corrupt system files with a cached copy, and restores discrepancies. To run the SFC scan on Windows 10, follow these steps:

Step 1 –Launch Command Prompt in admin mode.

Step 2 –In the Command Prompt Terminal, type the following command and hit Enter:

sfc/scannow

Wait for a few minutes until the scan gets completed. Once it’s done, reboot your device and try creating new user profiles on your device to see if you’re still experiencing any troubles.
