Method 1: Rolling Back Microsoft Office to a Previous Version

The June 2020 version of Microsoft Office was the version that was launched previous to the faulty one, and this method will help users get back to it and resolve this issue. They can then directly jump to the latest version currently being rolled out. Follow the steps below to roll back to the June 2020 update of Microsoft Office:

Step 1:  Command Prompt using the search option on your Windows PC.

Step 2: Type the following command in the command line and press Enter.

cd “\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun”

Step 3: The Command Prompt will now take you to the ClickToRun folder. There, type the following command and press Enter.

officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12827.20470

Step 3: This command will prompt the Microsoft Office to download and roll back to a previous version of the program automatically. The download may take some time to finish depending upon the network speed.

Step 4: You’ll be notified when the download and installation of the required version of Microsoft Office is finished. Click on Close to shut the download menu.

Your new Microsoft Office version, or say, the old version is now ready to use.

NOTE. In case your method fails, then try changing the command you entered in the command line. Replace the previous command with this one and repeat the entire process:

officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.12527.20880

Method 2: Operating on Outlook in Safe Mode

Until the new version is available on your PC, you can continue to operate Microsoft Outlook in safe mode without worrying about crashes. However, in safe mode, various features such as Outlook add-ins are disabled. Still, Outlook works with all essential services and features in the safe mode as well.

Step 1: While launching Microsoft Outlook, press and hold CTRL button on your keyboard.

Step 2: Click on Yes and start Outlook in Safe Mode. The Safe Mode sign in the top bar will confirm that the action was executed correctly.

You can now keep on using Microsoft Outlook in safe mode without the hassle and can continue to do so until Microsoft Outlook’s new version comes to your device. To operate Microsoft Outlook in safe mode, you’ll always have to open it the same way by pressing and holding the CTRL button while launching the app.
