VR Horror Games That Will Scare Your Pants Off

Although fear is something that isn’t considered a pleasurable emotion, it can still work wonders especially when it comes to the horror fiction genre. Grotesque and violent imagery, jump scares and portrayal of paranormal activities have all been instrumental in creating a genuine feeling of grim and macabre. With the introduction of Virtual Reality tech, the seemingly saturated horror games genre has also been revitalized. So, if you want to feel like you’re in the middle of a horror movie, here are some VR game titles that are sure to send chills down your spine.

1. Resident Evil 7

Resident Evil 7
The previous entry in Resident Evil series, RE6 was hated by fans and games unanimously. This forced Capcom to re-work on their plans with the game’s future and came up with a highly re-invented yet, refreshing 7th title. Unlike older games in the series (except for Gun Survivor and Dead Aim), Resident Evil 7 plays entirely in 1st person with 3rd person view during cutscene, making it an incredibly awesome title for VR. Although a lot of fans were disappointed with this change in perspective, yet the VR edition is one of the most terrifying games you could ever play.

2. Visage

Visage

Ever watched movies such as ‘The Conjuring’ or ‘The Grudge’ and felt like you wanted to be in that situation? Well, for the oddballs who actually said yes would have a ball playing Visage. It puts the player inside a seemingly regular looking house with a dark past that must be uncovered. The gameplay not only looks realistic, but the combination of psychological horror and jump scares along with terrifying monsters will make you fear the dark.

3. Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Amnesia The Dark Descent

Horror game fans might already be familiar with this classic and it has been made even better with the VR release. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is played in 1st person as the player explores a medieval castle full of monsters and involves puzzle solving to progress in game. Since there are no weapons accessible to the player, the only way to escape from monster is by running and hiding. In addition to health meter, there is also a sanity meter that depletes each time you encounter monsters. Fully depleting sanity bar will result in grotesque hallucinations making it hard to escape monsters.

4. Alien: Isolation

Alien: Isolation

If you’re fired up for the upcoming Alien: Covenant movie, then it is essential that you play this game. Although the game’s plot doesn’t have much to do with Covenant, it will help you get familiar with the Alien lore and experience the horror first-hand. Alien: Isolation puts you in command of Amanda Ripley (the daughter of Ellen Ripley from the original movie series) as she must explore a space station infested with hostile humans, androids and an Alien Xenomorph that is also loose inside. The gameplay focuses more on evasion rather than confrontation, that forces players to find new ways to escape and stay out of sight.

5. Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul
