  • Check that all the USB ports are working and not defective.

  4. Right-Click on the device model and click on Properties
  5. Click on the Driver tab and then click on Uninstall Device and press OK. You might be prompted to restart your computer
  6. Now, scan for hardware changes
  7. Windows will now help you reinstall the missing driver for your mouse

(B) Update Mouse Driver

You can update the driver for mouse using the same steps as the above method. Instead of clicking on Scan for hardware changes, click on the Update device driver. Here’s another way, you can update drivers and that too automatically using Smart Driver Care. To do that –

  1. Install Smart Driver Care from button below
  2. Click on Start Scan Now
  3. All the outdated drivers will be listed
  4. You can either choose to update all the drivers by clicking on Update All, or you can click on Update Driver next to an individual driver

  5. It will then start downloading the updates
  6. Smart Driver Care even takes a backup of existing drivers which can be restored in case of a problem

3. Run The Inbuilt Troubleshooter in your Windows 10 PC or Laptop

An error in the device or hardware might have caused the problem in the mouse. Talking of troubleshooting mouse problems Windows 10, the error can be resolved with the help of the inbuilt Windows 10 troubleshooter. To access the troubleshooter –

  1. Open the Settings by pressing Windows + K keys on the keyboard
  2. Click on Update & Security
  3. From the left-hand pane click on Troubleshoot
  4. From the right-hand side under Hardware and Devices select Run the troubleshooter
  5. If an error is found, it will be listed. Click on Apply this fix

4. Disable Enhanced Pointer Precision

  1. Press Windows+X keys and open Settings
  2. Click on Devices
  3. Choose Mouse from the left-hand pane
  4. Under Related settings click on Additional mouse options
  5. You will now reach another window that says Mouse Properties
  6. Click on the Pointers Options and then under Motion uncheck the Enhance pointer precision option

5. Disconnect External USB Devices

This might not be the exact way of troubleshooting mouse problems in Windows 10, but you can try removing all external devices from your computer except the mouse. That’s because external USB peripherals at times interfere with the mouse or touchpad. And, if the touchpad itself is not working and you have a USB mouse attached, you can even try removing that too.

6. Run SFC SCAN NOW

 

SFC or System File Checker is a utility in Windows 10 which can help you scan for corrupted files and protected files, and it then replaces them with a cached copy. This might even fix mouse problems in Windows 10. To run SFC Scan –

  1. Type CMD in the Windows search bar.
  2. Choose Run as administrator from the right-hand pane.
  3. When the command prompt window opens, type SFC /Scannow.SCANNOW
  4. This process may take some time, so wait for the process to finish.
  5. Restart your system.

7. Switch Touchpad On/Off Or Reset It

Last but not least, you can try switching your touchpad on and off or even reset, which might be helpful in troubleshooting touchpad issues. This setting might differ slightly from version to version.

  1. Open Settings
  2. Go to Devices
  3. Click on Touchpad
  4. In the right-hand pane slide the Touchpad slider to the left and then slide it to the right again

You can even try to Reset your touchpad by clicking on Reset under Reset touchpad settings and gestures to defaults.
