Before performing any of the steps explained below, try switching display. To do so, follow the steps below:

Press Windows key + P. You will now see Project menu

Since we are here to resolve the black screen possibility is you might not understand. Worry not, simply press up or down arrow key a few minutes and press Enter key

If this works, you will be able to see the screen. If it doesn’t repeat the same steps a few

times.

We suggest doing so because after updating Windows 10, sometimes project mode changes to the Second screen only. We faced the same issue, and this simple trick worked for us.

Resolution 1 – Restart Windows PC

Restarting PC to resolve black screen with cursor might sound too obvious, but we miss out on doing so. Hence we placed this resolution at number one. To force shutdown and restart PC, follow the steps below:

1. To completely shut down the PC, press and hold the power button on your laptop/ CPU for 8- 10 seconds.

2. Next, disconnect everything from the power cord for a desktop to the battery from a laptop.

3. Wait for a minute or so and then reconnect everything.

Note: Avoid reconnecting any USB device, printer, or extended screen, etc

4. Power on the PC to restart and see if the black screen with the cursor is gone or not. If this doesn’t work, let’s move to the next step.

Resolution 2 – Launch Windows Explorer via Task Manager

The next step to resolve Windows 10 black screen with the cursor is to open explorer through Task Manager. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys altogether
  2. Click Task Manager

If this doesn’t work, you can press the Power button and select Restart. Hold down the SHIFT key and head to Power button > Restart.

Once restarted go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart Press F4 to restart Windows in Safe Mode and follow steps below:

4. Here, type explorer.exe and press OK.

5. Wait for 4-5 minutes to see how Windows respond. You might see desktop icons after performing this step. Now look for available Windows update and resolve the black screen issue completely.

Resolution 3 – Disable Third Party Services

Many times due to incompatible third-party services, you might get Windows 10 black screen. To resolve this, you’ll need to disable services other than Microsoft. To do so, follow the steps below:

1. Press all three keys Ctrl+Alt+Delete together

2. File option > Run new task

3. Type msconfig and press Ok

4. Go to the Services tab and check the box next to Hide all Microsoft services.

5. After this, click Disable all click OK

6. Now, restart your PC see if the problem is resolved. If this resolves the problem, follow the same steps, and enable services one by one. You’ll be able to find the service causing problem. Disable it or remove it from running.

Resolution 4 – Add New User Account to Windows 10

To create a new user account, you will need to use again Run a new task option from Task Manager.

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete

2. Task Manager > File > Run a new task > netplwiz > Ok

3. To create a new user account, click the Add button.

3. Sign in without a Microsoft account

4. Select Local account

5. Give the account a name and password > Next > Finish

6. Now select new user > Properties

7. Hit Group Membership tab in the pop-up window.

8. Select Administrator > Ok > Ok

9. Again, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to Sign Out

10. Sign in using the new account

11. If you can see your desktop, your problem is resolved. Transfer all the files from an old user account to new.

Resolution 5 – Reinstall Display Driver

Most likely black screen problems can be caused due to outdated or incompatible video drivers. For this, you’ll need to update the drivers. If you are good with computers and you like to play around with the system settings, you can update the driver manually via Driver Manager.

But if you are not that confident or don’t want to risk your data and PC try using Smart Driver Care. This driver updating utility will automatically detect outdated, corrupt, and incompatible drivers. To use it, follow the steps below:

1. Download and install Smart Driver Care

2. Afterward, run the sdcsetupg_sdc_site-default.exe file to setup Smart Driver Care

3. Click Start Scan Now to scan the system for outdated, corrupt, and incompatible drivers

4. Let the scan finish. This best driver updater tool will now list down drivers that need to be updated

5. Select Graphics/Display driver and click Update Driver next to it.

Alternatively, if you are using the registered version of the product, you can click Update All.

6. Now restart the machine and check Windows black screen might be resolved.

Resolution 6 – Repair Windows 10 with Available Upgrade

Resolution 7 – Disable App Readiness Service

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete on Black Screen

2. Click Task Manager

3. Run new task from the File menu

6. Double click and under Startup type, select Disabled from the drop-down menu.

7. Click Apply > OK to save changes.

8. To bring changes into effect, you’ll have to restart your PC. Now check you should not see a black screen with arrow anymore.

Resolution 8 – Restore Windows

If nothing has worked so far, then you can try restoring the system. To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Again, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete > Task Manager > File > Run new task
  2. To open the System Restore window, enter rsrturi in Create a new task window.
  3. Click Next, select the latest restore point and click Next.
  4. Follow on-screen instructions, and that’s it.

After the restoring system, you’ll need to update drivers. For this, you can use Smart Driver Updater.

Resolution 9 – Last resort – re-install Windows 10

You should use this step when nothing works because once your re-install Windows or reset PC; you can lose data if you don’t have a backup. Therefore, use it at your discretion and when nothing works.
