AI Takes Center Stage at Zoom: Meet the Generative AI Assistant

Zoom has unveiled an AI-driven virtual assistant called the Zoom AI Companion, and it will become part of its premium subscription packages without any additional charges. The Zoom AI Companion is set to seamlessly integrate itself across the entire Zoom ecosystem, including meetings, email, phone, chat, and whiteboard functionalities.

Since June, the company has been actively experimenting with different offerings under the Zoom IQ umbrella, such as free trials of Meeting Summary and Team Chat Compose. However, it appears that the company is now intensifying its focus on expanding its AI-driven lineup of products and services.

Users will have the ability to engage directly with the AI Companion via a convenient side panel within the Meetings interface. Furthermore, the company has hinted at the likelihood of AI Companion making appearances throughout the entire Zoom ecosystem, encompassing Meetings, Email, Team Chat, Phone, and Whiteboard functionalities.

The company credits the elimination of extra charges to its dynamic incorporation of its own LLMs with third-party equivalents. These third-party alternatives include products from OpenAI and Meta, such as Llama 2. This integration has played a key role in making this cost-saving move possible.
