How to Get Playables on Your Phone & Desktop?
The feature is already being rolled out by YouTube, and many users have begun to receive it. To access it, simply open the YouTube app, go to the profile section, and click on Your Premium Benefits to explore the new addition. Tap once more on Try experimental new features, and you’re all set. It will then show you the games section on YouTube explore.
Those who haven’t received it yet could expect the update in the upcoming weeks. The feature is accessible via mobile applications on both iOS and Android operating systems. At present, Playables is undergoing beta testing and is exclusively available to a select group of Premium subscribers.
However, YouTube plans to progressively broaden access to Playables in the upcoming months. YouTube has outlined its intention to provide Playables until March 28, 2024, following which the company will evaluate its performance and determine its future. If it is successful, it could end up staying on the platform as a permanent feature.
Although, YouTube is not the pioneer in streaming services to offer a game arcade to its users. In November 2021, Netflix introduced its game arcade, but it failed to gain substantial popularity. The performance of Playables, YouTube’s offering, will be closely watched to see if it can outperform Netflix’s offering.
YouTube’s introduction of ‘Playables’ marks a significant move to entice users into its premium service by providing a seamless gaming experience directly within the platform. This unique feature, available on both mobile and desktop, eliminates the need for downloads, promising easy access to a variety of games. While currently exclusive to YouTube Premium subscribers, the potential for increased user engagement is evident.
