Why Has Twitter Removed The SMS 2FA Security Feature?

The SMS 2FA Security Feature

SMS 2FA has allegedly been “used and abused by malicious people,” according to Twitter. Elon Musk, the company’s owner, asserts that this abuse costs Twitter roughly US$60 million a year. Although the corporation is accurate that SMS-based authentication is not the greatest, it is not generally believed to be a way for those who abuse it to make money.

Is The Removal Of SMS 2FA A Concern For Twitter Users?

Removal Of SMS 2FA

Twitter claims that 74% of users who have enabled two-factor authentication use the text message option. Although it’s sad that you can’t get that anymore without purchasing the monthly Twitter-Blue Plan for $8, Android and iOS users are better off without this feature.

Did you know that this method was not 100% secure as it’s simpler for attackers to spoof your SMS remotely, especially with SIM swapping? Instead, Android users can use more secure and free authentication apps like Google Authenticator. As far as iOS users are concerned, Apple has already inculcated an authentication application in iPhones for a long time.
