Microsoft Edge Not Working Properly? Here’s How You Can Fix That?

Microsoft has done a great job with Microsoft Edge. It’s far better than its predecessor Internet Explorer, delivers excellent browsing experience, provides secure browsing and has a fantastic interface. Here’s why you must immediately install the new Microsoft Edge. But, just like any other browser, it can have its set of issues. What if you find that one day your Microsoft Edge stops working properly.

It could be any issue. Maybe Microsoft Edge is not loading pages, or it abruptly closes your session or worst of all! Ceases to work at all.

In case you are facing any issue with Microsoft Edge, jitter not! Take a deep breath and try the fixes mentioned in this blog.

1. Use The File Explorer To Resolve Microsoft Edge Not Opening Issue

Resolve Microsoft Edge

If Microsoft Edge is not opening, then you can try deleting the user default folder. Follow the steps mentioned below –

  1. For this, first, open the File Explorer and type in the following path in the search bar

C:\Users\admin\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AppData\User

  1. Once you are here, delete the complete Default folder
  2. Try and relaunch Microsoft Edge

2. Defrag Your Windows 10 Computer

Disk Speedup tool

Your Windows 10 laptop or computer may be asking for defragging. Microsoft Edge quite like other browsers reads and writes to your SSD or hard drive, and if there is a paucity of storage, you will face issues like Microsoft Edge not loading pages or working as slow as a snail. Here’s how you can defrag your PC manually.

But, why put so much effort when you can instead use a computer defragment utility and these tools mitigate risks of any mishap. We recommend using Disk Speedup from Systweak. It is a one-stop solution for defragging hard drives, wiping out the unnecessary computer – slowing down junk and repairing any other system issues.

You can directly defrag your computer’s hard drive using the Direct Defrag option.

3. Open Task Manager And Close Edge Processes

Open Task Manager

If Microsoft Edge is not working on your Windows 10 laptop or PC, the chances are that multiple other Edge processes are running in the background. You can end all these processes using the Task Manager.

  1. Open Task Manager using Ctrl + Shift + Esc
  2. When the Task Manager opens look for any existing Edge processes which might be running in the background
  3. Select the process and either click on End Task at the bottom right or right-click on the process and select End Task

This should resolve the issue, and you should now be able to see Microsoft Edge up and working once again.

4. Try Performing A Clean Boot

Clean Boot

If any third party programs are running on your Windows 10 system, some of these may cause conflicts with your browsers. It is therefore quite possible that Microsoft Edge is not working because of this reason or Microsoft Edge has stopped responding. One way to deal with this is to perform a clean boot which has resolved the issue for many users. We have laid out the steps for you –

  1. Open Run by pressing Windows + R keys and type msconfig in the dialog box
  2. Head to Services tab and check the Hide all Microsoft services that you will find at the bottom
  3. Now click Disable all
  4. Switch to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager
    Task Manager
  5. Disable all the items by selecting items one by one and hitting the Disable button
  6. Head back to the System Configuration windows and then click Apply and then OK
  7. Restart your computer and check if Microsoft Edge is working fine or not

5. Give Your Computer A Quick Restart

A quick restart is all that you might need if Microsoft Edge opens but closes intermittently. You might not even have to delve into any other fixes.
