How To Make Calls Using Your Phone App

Microsoft has its very own app which lets you connect your smartphone with your Windows computer. It allows users to check notifications, send and receive messages, check photos from the phone gallery. Now with the latest update, you can also make and receive calls from the computer. The app is called Your Phone, and it truly means that as it does not restrict you to connect your phone to PC with Bluetooth or USB cable. Your Phone app is one of the advancements, which will help users make the most of the smartphones connected to it.

The calling feature has been in the testing mode in the last few months. This has now been released for general public.

The requirements for Your Phone app are as following:

  1. Android device with version 7 and above.
  2. Windows 10 2018 update.
  3. Microsoft account.
  4. Your Phone app installed on your PC.
  5. Internet connection on both connected devices.

Steps To Make Calls Using Your Phone App:

In this article, we will tell you how you can make and receive calls on Your Phone app. It includes basic steps which will help you connect a smartphone with computer. Ability to make calls from your PC was only possible using VoIP services like Skype and Viber.

Your Phone app can be used to perform a lot of tasks with your Android and iPhone connected to Windows 10 PC.

Step 1: Open Your Phone app from the search bar beside Start Menu.

Step 2: Sign in to your Microsoft account after connecting your phone. Please check the post if you want to connect your phone for the first time.

Step 3:  In Your Phone app, you can see the Calls option along with Photos, Messages and notifications. Click on it.

Step 4:  Now, you will see a new tab opened in the right panel. This tab includes a phone dialer which can be used to dial a number. You can also locate a search bar at the top, which will look through your phone contacts list.

To make a phone call, you need to dial the number by pressing the number keys on the dial pad or by selecting a phone contact.

Note: The phone call will be connected through your cellular network. Remember that the call charges are applicable as per your network plan, as this is not an internet call.

The phone call box appears on the top right corner along with a contact name or number, in case, it is not saved. The box will show you the button to close the call. You can drag this box, and it is expandable which shows you more options. Mute, dial-pad, and transfer the call buttons are visible here. With the third button which says Use Phone, the ongoing call can be transferred to the phone without the need to disconnect it.

Step 5: Similarly, you will receive calls on the desktop, and it will show you a tab opened on the right bottom corner of your computer. Three options will appear – Accept, decline and message.

  • Accept- Click on it accept the phone call, and this immediately connects you to the calling person.
  • Decline- Click on this option to reject the call, and the call will get disconnected right away.
  • Message- This option allows you to send a message instead of receiving the incoming call. This feature can be used the same way it has been used on the phone, to send busy message.

This new feature is also going to provide you with a window of opportunity to experiment with your phone connected to Windows. Using the app can be fruitful while working on your computer.
