How Is Facebook Trying To Regain Your Trust?

Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg, have been in the news lately due to the recent debacle. It all started with the Cambridge Analytica data privacy scandal and then led to speculations of his resignation. Rumor has it, after quitting Facebook, Mark is supposedly going to endorse skincare line but that turned out to be an April Fool’s Day joke.

However, the question is not what Mark is going to do for his future, it’s about how Facebook.Inc, the social media giant is going to regain the lost faith of its users. Hearing speculations and different opinions about the situation is common. A lot has come and a lot could be expected further. What is important here is damage control!

Looks like the social media giant is working on it. After the recent fiasco, the company is trying hard to control the damage and shared a post telling how much it cares for its users and how concerned Facebook is about the incident.

Zuckerberg has listed a few steps that the company has taken to ensure that the same incident won’t occur in future. In fact, Facebook mentioned brief about the steps taken in another post ensuring that they’re doing the needful to set the standards high for the developers.

  • The company has committed to look at all the applications that had access to great amount of data. They will conduct a detailed audit if anything suspicious is found. However, this process is going to hamper apps that had access before 2014.
  • Facebook said now users can have a look at apps that have access to your information using Facebook privacy settings. In fact, the company is going to revoke third-party access, in case user hasn’t used the account for the last three months.
  • After the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Facebook is going to restrict the shared data apart from the name, email and profile picture of the user. In case the developer requires restricted information about the user then he needs a mandatory approval along with a signed contract.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said; “We’ll require developers to not only get approval but also sign a contract in order to ask anyone for access to their posts or other private data.”

  • As per Facebook, they are going to add a prominent tool at the top of the news feed that shows all the apps in a line which contain your data so it will be easier for users to cancel the permissions.
  • Facebook is expanding its bug bounty programs to attract more security researchers and wants to enhance the entire security of the Facebook.
  • As the Cambridge Analytica scandal began with “thisisyourdigitallife” app that affected over 50 million users, so now Facebook is thinking of informing its affected users about the mishandling of the data. In fact, the company has a plan to continue it with other apps as well.

Well, these are the actions that Facebook has taken after the scandal to regain its users. However, the reasons are strong enough to demand its users to trust Facebook again but surely the social media platform needs to do something to claim its throne without any doubts. Moreover, if the rumors about Mark Zuckerberg leaving the company turns to reality then users might not able to digest it and lose faith in Facebook completely.
