What Is The End Of Support Policy By WhatsApp?
WhatsApp, like all other apps, provides new features to all its users along with the latest security patches to ensure that WhatsApp messages remain encrypted and user privacy is maintained. However, after a considerable period of time, WhatsApp stopped supporting older devices with older operating systems. This is not the first time WhatsApp has announced such a list.
Why Does WhatsApp End Support For Older Devices?
When WhatsApp introduces a particular update or security patch, it targets mainly the latest OS available. The developers have to recode these updates for older versions of the OS. However, these updates are provided to a few of the older OS only. If your device is not able to upgrade its operating system to newer versions, then you will gradually lose app support updates for all of them. The older your OS is the more vulnerable it is to malicious threats.
|Take, for example, the current version of Android devices is Android 13. But the current Android version supported by WhatsApp is Android 4.1 which will end by December 31st. WhatsApp will only support Android 5 and above. So if you are running Android 13 or one or two versions below that then you need not worry.
As far as iOS is concerned, WhatsApp will end support for devices running iOS 10 and iOS 11. Note that the current iOS version is iOS 16.2.
