Google Voice has rolled out a novel functionality similar to its “suspected spam caller alerts,” designed specifically for SMS messages. For both Android and iOS, a new alert system is in place. When users receive spam messages, a red exclamation mark will pop up in place of the profile avatar. Additionally, the message preview will include the label “Suspected spam” in a matching color, making it effortless to spot these messages.

Upon encountering these labels in their messages, users have two options. They can either “confirm a suspected spam message,” which will subsequently relegate future messages from that particular number directly to the spam folder. Alternatively, they can “mark a labeled message as not spam,” ensuring that the suspected spam label will no longer appear for messages from that specific number.
These spam text safeguards are being extended to both free accounts and the paid Google Voice tiers, including Starter, Standard, and Premier. The rollout of this feature is now underway, and it is anticipated that it will be widely accessible soon.
