iMessage Lands on Android Without Apple’s Blessing – Is It Safe?

The much-anticipated arrival of Apple’s iMessage on Android is finally happening. With the launch of Nothing Chats application on November 17, Android users can text iPhone users. Despite Google’s persistent efforts to persuade Apple to bring iMessage to Android, it seems unlikely to occur anytime soon. Consequently, the responsibility has shifted to other brands to turn this long-awaited integration into a reality, and Carl Pei’s Nothing is leading the way in this regard.

Many users, especially those in the U.S., will eagerly embrace Nothing Chats. It satisfies the long-standing need that people have been advocating for years: seamless texting across Android and iMessage.

What exactly is Nothing Chats, how can it be utilized, and is it considered a secure platform? Let’s find out.

According to the official statement from Nothing, the groundbreaking Nothing Chats, driven by Sunbird, takes the lead. Indeed, Nothing Chats is designed by Nothing and the built is constructed upon Sunbird’s architecture. Nothing also provided clarification on how the process is managed to ensure privacy and security are upheld.

The Nothing spokesperson revealed and we are quoting, “Once you log in to the Chats app for the first time using either your existing Apple ID or creating a new one, your credentials are tokenized in an encrypted database and become associated with one of Sunbird’s North America or Europe-based Mac Minis (depending on where you’re located), creating an encrypted relay for iMessages sent through the app. Once the relay is created, it’s locked and cannot be accessed by Sunbird or anyone else even if they had access to the physical server itself. The only action Sunbird can take with the relay is to delete it.”

Additionally, he mentioned that Sunbird holds the ISO27001 certification. Currently, the company is in the process of obtaining ISO27701, a globally recognized specification for an information security management system.
