Solution No. 1 – Reset Using Apple ID

Step 1 – Enable the option to reset the password using the Apple ID. To do that –

Step 2 – Restart your Mac.

Step 3 – When you see the login screen, enter an incorrect password three times. You will now see a message box after entering an invalid password. Click on the option that says Reset it using your Apple ID.

Step 4 – In the pop-up that appears next, enter your Apple ID and password and hit the Reset Password button.

After entering Apple ID details, your computer will restart with a Recovery Assistant. You will be able to see a window that’ll prompt you to enter a new password. Furnish the new password and click on Next.

Solution No. 2 – Reset Mac Password Using A Recovery Key

If you have set up a FileVault encryption on your Mac, you may have received a Recovery Key during that process. Here’s how you can use that recovery key and reset your Mac password –

Step 1 – Press your Mac’s power button and click on Restart.

Step 2 – When the Mac boots, click on the user account.

Step 3 – Next to the password field, click on the question mark.

Step 5 – Enter the Recovery Key and click on Next

Solution No. 3  – Reset Mac Password Using Recovery Mode

You can also reboot your MacBook in Recovery Mode, run the Mac terminal, and reset your password using the steps mentioned below –

Step 1 – Restart your Mac in recovery mode. Hold down the Command key + R key + power button. Keep holding it until you see the loading bar on the Mac’s screen.

Step 2 –  Once your Mac boots into recovery mode, go to Disk Utility> Continue> Utilities Terminal.

Solution No. 4 – You Can Use Another Admin’s Account To Reset Password

In case you are facing an issue where you have forgotten your MacBook password with no question mark, you can use another administrator account to learn the password. To do that, follow the steps mentioned below –

Step 1 – Go to the alternate administrator’s account by entering the credentials.

Step 2 – Click on Users & Groups in System Preferences.
