Apple Far Out Event’22 Recap: Here’s Everything Announced At The Event

The most awaited Apple event was held on September 7, 2022. The “Far Out” event was jam-packed with the latest launches. It’s the second live event that Apple has hosted since the pandemic began. The introduction of the iPhone 14 series was the main attraction.

The company announced four new iPhone 14 models: iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max. Sadly, Apple has excluded the “Mini” variant from the new iPhone series this year. The Cupertino-based giant also revealed new Apple Watch variants, including  Series 8, the rough and tough Ultra model, and the new & improved SE model. The  2nd-Gen Airpods Pro with 2X Noise Cancellation was also part of the announcement.

Here’s everything announced at Apple’s Far Out Event

iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Plus

As per the design part, the famous notch and twin camera setup at the back of the iPhone 13 series will remain in the iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Plus. The new iPhone 14 Plus offers a screen size of 6.7 inches, while the original iPhone 14 model keeps its 6.1-inch screen. The A15 Bionic processor from Apple, which powered the iPhone 13 Pro previous generation, is present in both devices.

The display on both devices is covered with Ceramic Shield glass and has Super Retina XDR. They also include an enhanced 12-megapixel camera, an aluminum frame & body. The new iPhone 14 and 14 Plus will come with a 12-megapixel camera with a larger aperture and enhanced autofocus capability at the front.

Emergency SOS & Crash Detection, two brand-new features that were revealed at Apple Event, will set the new iPhone 14 series apart from the previous generation and other flagship phones. In cases where a mobile/internet service is not available, Emergency SOS will enable users to communicate via satellites and transmit emergency messages. Within just 15 seconds, and when there is a clear sky, a message can be sent using satellite frequencies.

Crash Detection is a great feature that can help your iPhone sense if you are in a car crash. It uses GPS, barometer, and microphone of iPhone to detect the unusual pattern indicating a car crash. This will trigger SOS, and an emergency call screen will appear. If the user doesn’t respond, it will connect them to emergency services, notifying emergency contact and providing location information.

The price of the iPhone 14 starts at $799, while the cost of the Plus starts at $899. Both models will be available to purchase on Sep’16 & Oct 7, respectively.

iPhone 14 Pro & iPhone 14 Pro Max

The company also unveiled its flagship models, the iPhone 14 pro & iPhone 14 Pro Max. Both devices have an always-on display and a new & faster A16 Bionic microprocessor. In iPhone 14 Pro models, Apple has gone with a unique design that resembles a pill placed in the place of the unpleasant notch. This pill-shaped capsule, known as “Dynamic Island,” is capable of changing shape and, in a sense, becoming a second display.

These two pro models also include Super Retina XDR displays with a new rate of 120Hz, which Apple dubs “Pro Motion,” which Apple claims can reach 2,000 nits of maximum brightness, and smaller bezels than the base versions.

With more power, Apple also made additional advancements. You’ll get a 48-Megapixel camera sensor, which Apple claims is 65 percent bigger than the previous generation pro models. It will improve your low-light photography. A pair of 12MP cameras are also included.

At the front, you will get a 12-Megapixel, PDAF camera sensor with a 3D depth/biometric sensor. The Pro and Pro Max will be available to purchase on September 16 for the same prices as the previous generation, starting at $999 for the Pro model and $1,099 for the Pro Max.

All the iPhone 14 models will be running on iOS 16 out of the box.

Apple Watch Ultra

The all-new Apple Watch Ultra can easily be distinguished from previous Apple Watches. It sports a 49mm casing that houses the largest (and brightest) Apple Watch display. The titanium case has an elevated edge to safeguard the display. The display is located under a sapphire crystal shell. The display can go up to 2,000 nits of brightness, which is insane.

The robust Apple Watch Ultra has a water-resistant rating of 100-meter and can last over a day because of its larger form factor and powerful battery. The titanium is of aerospace quality and corrosion-resistant. With this Apple Watch, you now have a new and unique customizable Action button that allows instant control over different actions.

The Apple Watch Ultra can withstand temperatures of -20° C and 55° C. It complies with MIL-STD-810H regarding low pressure (altitude), temperature changes, contamination by liquids, humidity, rain, immersion, sand or dust, ice/freezing rain, and shock.

The Apple Watch Ultra only comes with a cellular option and will cost $799 for all available models. It will be available from September 23.

Apple Watch Series 8

Apple also launched the successor of the Apple Watch 7, i.e., the Apple Watch 8. Although it employs the new S8 chip, the Series 8 is identical to the Apple Watch Series 7. It has features such as Crash Detection, Temperature sensors, and an improved Low Power Mode.

The Temperature Sensors will check the temperature of your skin by combining two sensors: one on your skin and one right beneath the display. It will assist with cycle deviation tracking and ovulation forecasts by detecting changes as tiny as 0.1°C.

The most interesting feature is Crash Detection, which uses an integrated gyroscope to identify car crashes, alert emergency services, and pinpoint your location. Apple Watch Series 8 will come with watchOS 9 and you can book it right now. Deliveries begin on September 16.

Apple Watch SE 2

Apple also introduced the all-new Apple Watch SE, the entry-level model of its Series 8. The updated Apple Watch SE doesn’t have the temperature sensors but retains the same S8 processor as the Series 8 & Watch Ultra models. It also adds support for the new Crash Detection feature. The Watch SE sports a new, revamped plastic back and a casing made entirely of recyclable aluminum.

Along with Apple Watch Series 8, it will be accessible starting September 16.

Apple Airpods Pro 2

After much anticipation, Apple officially unveiled the AirPods Pro 2 during the Far Out event. They resemble the old model, except they have the updated H2 CPU. Also, have Bluetooth and active 2X noise-cancellation (ANC). Additional upgrades include a new audio driver and promising six hours of battery life without the case. You’ll get a 30 hours backup with the case.

With the advent of Apple’s well-known Find My function, the case is receiving an improvement in addition to battery life. In combination with just a lightning wire, the charging case can now also be charged using an Apple Watch charger.

You can pre-book the new Airpods Pro 2 from September 9, though the launch is set on September 23. They will go on sale for $249.
