How to Fix Compatibility Issues Of A Graphic Card Driver

Computer has become more of a medium to watch TV series, movies and play hi-tech games and surf Internet rather than just creating documents and sending emails. For enjoying all of it, a graphics card has become a necessity in the world of technological furtherance.
What if the graphics card is not working properly? Have you ever got a message that your Graphics card doesn’t match the Graphics Driver? These things happen due to compatibility issues. Keeping your Graphics Driver updated can resolve this issue if you have never done that before. However, if your system has an older graphics card and you have updated the graphics driver to the latest version, then it could also create a problem. The issue can be resolved by rolling back to an older version of the graphics driver.
Note: Keeping a copy of latest graphics driver on an external drive as a backup is a wise thing to do and always recommended.

Two Methods To Fix Compatibility Issues Of A Graphic Card Driver

  • Rollback Graphics Driver from Device Manager
  •  Installing the Compatible Graphic Driver

1. Rollback Graphics Driver from Device Manager

If you have an older graphics card and you have updated the graphics driver to the latest version, there might be compatibility issues. To resolve the issue, you need to rollback the Graphic Driver to the older version. Follow these steps:
Step 1: Go to Search bar beside Start Menu and type Control Panel and click on Control Panel app when it comes up. image 1

Step 2: You will get Control Panel Window, locate Device Manager, click on it to launch. image 2

Step 3: From the Device Manager, expand Display Adapters and double-click Graphics card option to open the properties of the Graphic Driver. image 3

Step 4: On the Properties Window, go to Driver Tab, click the Roll Back Driver button and click OK. image 4

The process will take a few minutes and your driver will be rolled back to previously installed version. Once the process is completed, restart your computer.

2. Install the Compatible Graphic Driver

What if the Rollback button is grayed out. Well, if this happens you can’t go back to the previously installed version of the driver as you have not taken a backup of the driver ever. In this case, you have to download a graphics driver which can work well with the installed graphics card. Consult with your Graphic driver manufacturers to get the right one and keep it on a USB drive. Once you have done that, you can install the same to fix the compatibility issues.

Note: You should not try to use this method if you are using an old computer.
Step 1: Go to Search bar beside Start Menu and type Control Panel and click on Control Panel app when it comes up. image 5

Step 2: You will get Control Panel Window, locate Device Manager, click on it to launch. image 6

Step 3: From the Device Manager, expand Display Adapters and locate graphics driver. Right-click on the Graphics Driver to get the context menu. Click Uninstall image 7

Note: You can also double-click on it to open Graphic Driver properties. Under Driver tab, click Uninstall button to uninstall the driver. image 8

Step 4: Now restart your computer, if you see a black screen, then force restart your computer. When Windows will come up, it might look as it was, when you installed Windows for the first time.
Step 5: Now plug in the USB drive, and install the compatible driver that you have downloaded.
