How To Delete Duplicate Contacts On Android

Tons of duplicates in contact list is not the nastiest problem that we can face. But it can make your contacts list look unorganized and unoptimized. When we want to connect with our loved ones and have to scroll through a huge list of contacts it is really inconvenient. And as far as we can tell, nobody likes to scroll through a long list. Thankfully, there is a way to avoid the trouble and remove duplicate contacts. Go through the article and simply follow these steps.

How To Do It Using Your Device

The first thing you can try is using Android’s in built phone app. To do so, open your Contacts list > hit the Menu button  next Manage Contacts then from the list select Merge.

A screen with list of duplicate contacts will be populated, from here you can select the ones you want to merge. You cannot select group of contacts, you have to do it individually for each contact.

The procedure can vary from phone to phone. Different brands will give different options. If you have a Samsung phone it will work in the same way as described.

Using Your Web Browser Or Through Google Contacts

If the above mentioned method doesn’t work, you can try this alternate method. To use it you must sign in to your Google Account. Once you are logged in to your Google account go to your Contacts by clicking here.

On this page in the sidebar on your right you will see an option named “Duplicates”. Click on it to view list of all the duplicate contacts that you can merge.

Click “Merge” for the ones which you want to merge. If you do not want to merge them you can click “Dismiss”.

You can use any of the given options to merge duplicate contacts and get an organized list. This is the easiest way to merge duplicate and have clean list.

There are several third party apps available that may do the same task. But when you have an in built option and a more secure way to complete the task then why to compromise security.
