How to Disable the Lock Screen on Windows 11

The lock screen in Windows 11 is stunning and acts as a welcome to the system. The first roadblock to reaching the desktop is the Windows lock screen. It has a wallpaper image, the date and time, as well as app notifications. The next screen is the login screen, which needs a password, PIN, or fingerprint. However, not everyone wants a lock screen and lovely image every time they turn on their computer.

The lock screen makes the login procedure more complex. Disabling it makes sense if you don’t need to view the login screen. So, if you wish to bypass the lock screen in Windows 11 and go straight to the login screen, this article will provide several options.

How to Disable the Lock Screen on Windows 11

Method 1: Use Group Policy Editor

Note:  GPE (Group Policy Editor) is only available for Windows Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions.

The Group Policy Editor is an important tool for Windows administrators. Password requirements, and startup programs along with other aspects can be changed. GPE is only available for Windows editions other than Home.  Windows Home users can skip to the next step. Here’s how to use Group Policy to turn off the lock screen:

Step 1: To open the Run box on your computer, press Win + R.

Step 2: To launch the Group Policy Editor, type gpedit.msc and press Enter.

Step 3:  Then proceed to the left-hand panel. Select Computer Configuration  followed by Administrative Templates. Further click on Control Panel and finally Personalization.

Step 4: Double-click the Do not display the lock screen option in the Personalization settings.

Step 5: A new box will open with the option’s detailed details. The lock screen will be activated by default if the enabled option is selected.

Step 6:  To turn off your system’s lock screen, select the Disabled radio button.

Step 7: To complete the changes, click the Apply and then the OK button.

Step 8: You must restart your computer. You will note that lock screen will not appear and that you are immediately taken to the login screen.

Method 2: Use Windows Registry Editor

You can disable Windows’ lock screen by changing registry settings. For backup purposes, make a copy of your Windows registry. It will allow you to restore the prior settings. See our comprehensive registry backup tutorial. The registry can disable the lock screen:

Step 1: To open the Run command box, use the Win key + R. To open Registry Editor, type regedit in the text box and press enter.

Step 2: Now copy and paste the below mentioned path into the text area, then press enter:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Step 3: Select the Windows key from the left panel and make a right-click it. Then go to File > New > Key and give it Personalization.

Step 4: Select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value from the right-click menu on Personalization. It should be called NoLockScreen.

Step 5: Set the Value Data to 1 by double-clicking on the NoLockScreen value.

Step 6: To apply the changes, click OK and reboot your computer. When your PC starts up, you won’t see the lock screen.

Step 7: Revert the NoLockScreen key value to 0 to restore the lock screen.
