Creating a System Restore point is one of the most recommended steps when you are installing an application, or making any changes to your Windows PC. However, things might not turn out as you expect them to be. For instance, various users have reported that whenever they try to perform a System Restore, they aren’t able to, and the main culprit is their Antivirus.

For once, you might scratch your head and wonder even if my Antivirus is preventing System Restore, I can’t go about disabling it. That’s true because you wouldn’t want to put the security of your PC in jeopardy by disabling your Antivirus and then making it vulnerable to attacks. Don’t worry! In this post, we’ll try and discuss troubleshooting steps to fix the “Antivirus blocking System Restore” while keeping the security of your PC intact.

How To Fix System Restore Blocked By Antivirus

Solution No. 1 – Uninstall and Reinstall Your Antivirus

One of the ways in which you can fix the System Restore not working due to being blocked by Antivirus is to first uninstall your Antivirus completely. If you are able to create and use the System Restore point after that, you can again reinstall the Antivirus. Here are the various ways to completely uninstall applications on your computer.

Solution No. 2 – Boot In Safe Mode

So, in case your System Restore is not working because of an Antivirus interference, you can try and conduct a System Restore in Safe Mode. Here is how you can boot your Windows 10 PC in Safe Mode. To boot Safe Mode in Windows 11, follow the steps mentioned below –

Step 1 – Go to Settings.

Step 2 – Click on System from the left.

Step 3 – From the right, scroll down and click on Recovery.

Step 4 – Under Recovery options, click on the Restart now button next to the Advanced Startup option.

Step 5 – Again click on the Restart Now button when the prompt appears.

Step 6 – You will then see a blue screen. Click on Troubleshoot.

Step 7 – Click on Advanced options and click on the Restart button.

Step 8 – Select Safe Mode and press number 4 on your keyboard. You can also choose from other Safe Modes as well.
