All You Need To Know About iOS 11’s File App

Apart from other delights, iOS 11 now comes with a File manager app. We all waited quite a long time for this, but we can assure that it’s totally worth it! Apple has put in notable efforts to make the File Manager app easy to access, search, browse and keep all our files at one place.

Earlier Apple users had to rely on apps like Dropbox and Google Drive to manage their files. But now with iOS 11 we have one convenient app where you can view and manage your files from any iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

So, no matter which device you’re using and wherever you saved it, managing files with Apple’s File Manager app is super convenient.

Let’s see how it works.

How To Use The New Files App In iOS 11

One of the best feature about Apple’s File app is the third party support integration. If you already have an account on Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive etc., you can now access your files from all your devices anytime. In addition to this, the files that you keep in iCloud drive will automatically appear in the Files app too.

To access all third party apps at one place follow these steps:

  1. First download all the third party apps on your iOS device.
  2. Now open the Files app.
  3. Tap Locations> Edit.
  4. Now toggle all those sliders of third party apps that you need to access in iOS Files app.
  5. Tap on Done.

Browse locations

Once you have successfully added all your files, then handling them in the app is much easier. The clean and simple user interface of the iOS 11’s File app makes it easier to organize all your files in one place.

Now view your files by name, date, size, or labels that you include with vivid and custom names. You can add labels to your records any way that you like. That implies, you’ll quickly find which file or document you’re looking for.

To add a File tag:

  1. Go to Select.
  2. Tap the file that you want to tag.
  3. Now click on the Share icon (square and upwards arrow) and then tap on Tag+
  4. Choose the tag that you wish to add.

Moving Files With Drag and Drop

  1. Tap and hold the file that you wish to move.
  2. To move more than one file, tap them while holding the original file until you see a stack underneath your finger.
  3. Now while moving your finger on the screen, browse the file location where you wish to move these files and release your finger to drop the files inside.

Sharing Files with Your Friends

With the new files app in iOS 11, sharing files with friends and colleagues has become a whole lot easier. All you need to do is select the file, tap on the share icon and then share your file instantly via Airdrop, iMessage, WhatsApp, email or whatever option you want.

Deleting Files from The Files App

Select the file that you don’t need any longer and tap Delete or trash icon. If you delete a file from the iCloud Drive organizer on one device, all respective files will be removed on all other devices as well. iCloud Drive removes the files on every device that you’re logged in with a similar Apple ID.

If you accidentally delete a file and wish to recover it sooner or later( Within 30 days) then head to Locations>Recently Deleted. Select the file that you want to keep and tap “Recover”. But remember the files will get permanently deleted after 30 days from the Recently Deleted folder.
