Like any other company, Facebook also believes and is reaching out to users to help the company to make their products better. And as we all know, who can give advice better than the entity who is actually using the product. In this case, the users are us who use Facebook’s products and services, and now we are going to help them by taking part in different tasks, surveys, and research work where we will get rewarded. The company is trying to make their products better with our insights on some things and will pay us as well.

Just a heads up that while joining Facebook Viewpoints, it’ll ask you for some of your personal information like your name, email address, country of residence, date of birth and gender. We already know that Facebook knows more about us then it probably shouldn’t. So, be two times wise while sharing this info on a branch whose root had already failed to keep its promises when it comes to secure the users’ data.

Press Release For Facebook Viewpoints

On dated 25th Nov. 2019, Facebook had a press release with reference to the Facebook Viewpoints launch that goes as below:

“Today, we’re introducing Facebook Viewpoints, a new market research app that rewards people for participating in surveys, tasks, and research. We believe the best way to make products better is to get insights directly from people who use them. We’ll use these insights to improve products like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Portal and Oculus, and to benefit the broader community.”

“Before you begin any program, we’ll let you know how the information you provide through that program will be used.”

How Facebook Viewpoints Works

Facebook Viewpoints which claims to be rewarding the users, is quite simple to use. Post downloading the app, you need to set up a Facebook Viewpoints account. After logging in, you’ll be invited to join programs. Before selecting and starting with each program, the app will explain what kind of information will be collected, how the info will be used and the points-earning-structure for completing the program.

Now since it’s a point-based platform, the company will explain to you how many points you need to receive a payment. Like every time, you reach that specific amount of points, you will directly receive a payment according to the calculation of rewarded points in your PayPal account. Since it’s you who earned those points, they cannot be exchanged, traded, or shared with others. Your points will come with an expiration period of five years from the date on which you last earned the points. For more FAQs, please visit here.

Will Users Face Data Breach Scandals Again?

Keeping the users’ data security and privacy, Facebook released a statement, “We won’t sell your information from this app to third parties. We also won’t publicly share your Facebook Viewpoints activity on Facebook or on other accounts you’ve linked without your permission. And you can end your participation at any time.”

Given the past history with Facebook for data privacy and security, I’m in a dilemma whether I should go for this app or not. However, the above statement from the giant gives me a bit of relief that my personal information won’t be shared with any of the third party.

Wrapping Up

Facebook’s attempt to gain its users’ trust, and to give something back to them are great initiatives. Let’s hope and wish it lasts. Because the company has been a major target for hackers, fraudsters, or third-party loopholes for the past years which evidently brought this giant in question mark category. Although it’s a great platform for the users to earn money via filling surveys and market research, they need to be more careful while giving up the information on the app which is compatible with both Android as well as iOS. Currently, the Facebook users of the United States of America can use this app, and the company will look forward to expanding it to more countries next year.

We Are Listening

Do you also think that this is an attempt from Facebook to gain the users’ trust back? Is it a great initiative that is going to help both the parties? Will this initiative help the company make products better as Facebook is expecting?
