Snapchat has joined the league of tech giants by launching its own generative AI chatbot, called My AI. My AI can help users with a variety of tasks, including producing poetry and information searches, by utilizing OpenAI’s ChatGPT tech. The announcement was made at Snap’s annual Partner Summit, where the company revealed its plans to leverage the technology for accelerating the development of AR (Augmented Reality) features.
Snap Inc has just concluded its Snap Partner Summit 2023, where it unveiled an array of new features for its massive user base of over 750 million active users per month. The company’s announcements included new and improved capabilities for monetizing programs and sharing stories, all of which were designed at improving the overall user experience. The most interesting development is the long-awaited public release of My AI, an AI chatbot, for every user.
Snapchat+ users who are subscribed to the $3.99 monthly plan can now access the new AI-powered chatbot, My AI.
Features of Snapchat’s AI Chatbot ‘My AI’
The chatbot, which has already been a hit among Snapchat+ subscribers, will now come equipped with brand-new features to enhance its functionality and provide an even more personalized experience to users. Let’s take a look at these features:
- The incorporation of thousands of different Bitmoji kinds, which are easily customizable based on the user’s tastes, is one of the most interesting new features. With this new feature, Snapchatters can even design their own custom Bitmoji for the chatbot, giving it a unique name and initiating conversations.
- The chatbot can now suggest places to visit based on the Snap Map feature and recommend relevant Lenses to enhance the user’s experience. For instance, users can ask My AI to recommend weekend getaways for family or have Lens suggestions to send a loved one or buddy a happy birthday.
- Users may now start discussions with their friends even faster thanks to My AI. As they only need to @ mention the chatbot and pose a query on the group’s behalf to insert My AI into a conversation. This will result in the AI responding, and you can clearly recognize it because there is a sparkle adjacent to its name.
- Snapchat’s popularity as a means of communication is growing rapidly, with over 55,000 Snaps created on the app every second on average. In response to this trend, Snapchat allows Snapchat+ subscribers to engage with My AI through Snaps. Users will be able to Snap My AI and receive a unique generative Snap in return, facilitating a visual conversation that is both dynamic and interactive.

“Snapchat has announced new tools that will enable creators to grow their audience and expand their reach on the platform. Unlike other social media giants like TikTok and Instagram, Snapchat has traditionally prioritized private communication over public broadcasting. However, the new tools will allow creators to strike a balance between the two, by enabling them to run a public page while also sharing content privately with their friends and family.”
Snapchat’s My AI Safety Measures
In a bid to make the AI chatbot more user-friendly and safe, Snapchat has introduced new safety measures for My AI. The chatbot will temporarily restrict a user’s access if they repeatedly ask inappropriate or harmful questions. Snap has also implemented a conversation analysis system that adheres to Snapchat’s community guidelines, with nearly all of My AI’s responses complying with the platform’s policies. According to Evan Spiegel, the CEO of Snap Inc, “These new measures aim to provide users with a safe and secure environment to explore and interact with My AI.”
