Samsung Electronics, one of the prominent electronics giants, introduced a new and advanced mobile security solution in the form of hardware chips.
Using this newly developed chip and related software users can protect their sensitive and private data. Further, the new hardware has obtained Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+, the highest security level any mobile component has achieved.
How Will The Chip Help Users?
In this smartphone and contactless era, we expect our devices to be secure & safeguard our data from hackers. Keeping this in mind, Samsung has developed a new security solution.
Technically, speaking Secure Element (SE) silicon chip (S3FV9RR) follows (S3K250AF) first-generation solution announced in February. The hardware is designed to provide robust protection when performing operations like – mobile payments, storing data, device authentication, secure booting, and hardware-based Root of Trust (RoT).
In this era of contactless payment, it is a blessing.
Moreover, it can be used for e-passports and cryptocurrency wallets.
Can This Chip Work Independently?
According to Samsung, the chip is versatile, and it can work independently. This means you could use it with the external device’s central processor.
A similar chip was developed back in February and was added to the Galaxy S20 series. It was CC EAL 5+ certified.
Although this secure hardware will be available by the third quarter, its announcement makes it clear that now mobile users will be able to make secure contactless payments.
Why The Need For A Security Solution?
In today’s time, when everything is uncertain, we need a concrete solution to stay secure. Using this new security solution, S3FV9RR mobile security will reach the next level. It supports the hardware-based root of trust (ROT), secure boot, and device authentication; it means more security and privacy.
The device is capable of expanding the security capabilities of IoT applications, mobile devices, and other devices at all performance levels. Also, no longer, manufacturers will have to deal with tainted or non-authorized firmware.
The new hardware chip is an all-in package, and it also meets hardware security requirements for cryptographic operations. This means the upcoming mobile operating system version will be more secure and robust when the chip will be integrated.
What do you think about this new chip? Will it make smartphones more expensive or only secure? Do we need hardware like this or we need to create a vaccine for COVID-19 instead of a chip?
