How To Make Your Computer Read Back On-Screen Text

Reading text on a computer screen can be extremely strenuous to your eyes. So, if your work requires to read documents continuously or if you just love reading, then it’s not necessary to strain your delicate eyes. For MS Word Files:

To make windows read your MS word documents follow these steps.

  1. Open the word file you want your computer to read for you.
  2. Now you have to turn on speech command to turn it on click on options icon given at the top of MS Word window.

  4. In this window, you will find Popular Commands already selected. Choose All Commands from the drop-down menu.

  5. You will see all the commands now scroll down to “Speak” and click on Add to add this command.

  6. Click Ok and now you will see a narrator button on the top of word file window. It will be highlighted when you will select any text to read out.
  7. If you want to read out the entire document then you can select all by pressing Ctrl+A and then click on the play icon given on the top of word file.

This is how your computer can read your word documents next time whenever you will open a word document you will only need to select the text click on the play icon.

For Adobe Reader Or Pdf Files:

Most of the eBooks and sometimes documents are in Pdf format so if you want your computer to read such documents then you can also make your computer to read it to you. Here are the simple steps to enable reading in Acrobat reader.

  1. Open .pdf file and click on view from the menu.
  2. In this menu, the last option will be Read out loud>Activate read out loud.

  3. Once Read out loud is activated you can select a paragraph or you will have an option to read the current page or read to the end of document in Read out loud menu.

  4. At any point to start or stop reading you can click on Pause or stop.

This is how your computer can read to you and leaves you free to do some other work side-by-side. This not only helps relax your eyes but is also a neat hack to derive more productivity while working on a computer.
