New Phone Number Privacy Feature in WhatsApp Communities
WhatsApp has unveiled a remarkable privacy enhancement designed to strengthen the confidentiality of community interactions. When joining a community, the participants’ list is already concealed within the community announcement group. However, until now, users were unable to engage with the community announcement group using message reactions, as this action risked revealing their phone numbers.
This new feature ensures your phone number remains hidden, even when adding a reaction to a message. The new feature sends a notification, reassuring users that their phone number is only accessible to community admins and individuals who have saved their contact information. By activating this functionality, your phone number remains concealed, ensuring that other participants in the conversation cannot view your complete contact details.
Please bear in mind that this feature is exclusively available to community members, and it’s important to note that the phone number of the community admin will always be visible. This feature empowers users to engage with the community announcement group while preserving complete anonymity.

In addition, it enables you to send a request to a community member whose concealed phone number you happen to find and wish to contact discreetly. This provides them the option to give you their phone number, allowing the two of you to communicate privately.
