Elon Musk has recently announced that Twitter will soon roll out a host of new features aimed at enhancing user experience and privacy. According to Musk, Twitter will be launching encrypted messaging, calling options, and other updates to provide users with a more secure and seamless platform. With the addition of these features, Twitter is expected to compete with other messaging giants such as WhatsApp and Signal.
“In a move aimed at enhancing user privacy and security, Twitter has announced the launch of its new encrypted DMs V1.0. With this latest update, Twitter users will now be able to reply to any message in a DM thread, as well as use any emoji reaction. Additionally, Twitter is expected to introduce a new voice and video chat feature that will enable users to call anyone on the platform.”
Note: All these updates are coming to the Twitter Android and iOS app, not on the web platform of Twitter.

WhatsApp Can’t be Trusted?
Meanwhile, a Twitter engineer by the name of Foad Dabiri has shared a screenshot of an Android dashboard that appears to show WhatsApp accessing his microphone in the background for an extended period. According to the screenshot, WhatsApp had been accessing the microphone from 4:20 am until 6:53 am. This revelation has raised questions about WhatsApp’s privacy policy and data protection measures.

The Twitter engineer tweeted, “WhatsApp has been using the microphone in the background, while I was asleep and since I woke up at 6AM (and that’s just a part of the timeline!) What’s going on?”
Elon Musk has joined the growing chorus of critics expressing skepticism about the trustworthiness of WhatsApp. Responding to a tweet that highlighted privacy concerns surrounding the app, Musk stated that the popular messaging platform “WhatsApp cannot be trusted.”
What WhatsApp Is Saying About This?
“Over the last 24 hours we’ve been in touch with a Twitter engineer who posted an issue with his Pixel phone and WhatsApp. We believe this is a bug on Android that mis-attributes information in their Privacy Dashboard and have asked Google to investigate and remediate,” WhatsApp tweeted.
WhatsApp has responded to the recent allegations of privacy breaches raised by Twitter engineer, Foad Dabiri with a Google Pixel phone. The messaging app has reportedly requested that Google investigate the matter and provide a solution to the issue.
