Microsoft Partners With OpenAI and Finally Announces Paid Plans

Microsoft has extended its partnership with OpenAI (ChatGPT) and is investing billions of dollars.

On the other hand, OpenAI has announced paid plans for ChatGPT Professional.

Microsoft Extends Partnership With OpenAI

OpenAI has been in the news after the release of ChatGPT and Dall E-2. Perhaps with such amazing AI tools, there would be many organizations that would like to team up and Microsoft is the first one to do so. The partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI goes back to 2019 when it made the initial investment of one billion dollars.

The second time an investment was made was in 2021 amounting to $2 billion and this is the third time. The actual figure of the third investment is a mystery yet but a report published by Bloomberg claims that the total investment amounts to $10 billion over multiple years.

As a result of the agreement, Microsoft will spend more money on creating and implementing supercomputing platforms to aid OpenAI’s research. One significant aspect of the agreement is that Microsoft will be OpenAI’s sole cloud provider and that all OpenAI workloads spanning products, API services, and research would be powered by Microsoft’s cloud services.

Microsoft also intends to use OpenAI’s models in a number of its consumer and business offerings. According to rumors, the business is getting ready to compete with Google by integrating ChatGPT into Bing search results. Additionally, there are rumors that the business is considering adding linguistic AI technology to its Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook apps.

OpenAI Releases ChatGPT Professional Paid Version

With the release of ChatGPT in November 2022, OpenAI has been moving forward at a fast pace and has recently announced a premium version priced at $42 per month. The ChatGPT Professional version will offer extra features (not disclosed yet) and will grant improved availability, priority access, and faster response times.

For various customers, the price of the plan and the expanded yet “experimental” capabilities of ChatGPT may vary. The agreements negotiated with OpenAI and the specific needs of the user will determine this later. However, because the company is only making the paid membership available to a small number of customers, the premium edition of ChatGPT won’t be available to the broader public yet.
