WWDC 2021 on 7 June 21 – What to Expect or Not?

WWDC 2021 is an Apple major event that usually occurs in the summer each year. Though the surprises would be lifted after 10:00 AM on June 7, here is what we can expect. This information has been compiled by certain leaks, revelations, promises, and various other sources of information. This year is going to be full of surprises as compared to the WWDC 2020.

OS updates – macOS

After macOS Big Sur, Apple is going to release a new version of macOS. Although the name of this OS is not certain, the WebKit documentation of March 2021 reveals the version number to be macOS 12. With that, the smaller devices would be receiving iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 as well and this update is codenamed as SKY. We are not sure what this means at this point but will get more info on June 7th.

OS updates – iOS & iPad OS

App icons are also in line for a new updated look. All changes done in iOS 15 will also reflect in iPadOS 15 as well. There have been unofficial reports that certain features like notifications and lock screens would be receiving a complete makeover. The M1 processor is a powerful process that is being used in Apple iPad Pro and this means that Apple could release more powerful apps for iPad Pro which could rival the functioning of a desktop. Accessibility features would improve shortly as stated by Apple on many occasions.

OS updates – Apple Watch

Watch OS 8 is definitely in the works for Apple Watch Series 3 and later with new features and new watch faces. We doubt that hardware features would be announced this WWDC 2021. There have been rumors of glucose monitoring being added in Series 7 to be announced at the end of this year.

OS updates – tvOS 15

Apple TV hardware comprises Apple TV HD and the all-new Apple TV 4K which marks the movement of Apple from Intel processors to Apple Silicon. It is also quite possible that Apple Silicon processors might see a new generation. The new Apple Processor would probably be named M2.

New Macs

Now if Apple decides to announce new Apple Silicon Processors then they will be displayed fitted in a new Mac. Certain rumors about a 16 inch MacBook Pro have surfaced a few months back. If we count the newer Macs launched, then we have recently seen the 24-inch iMac, the Mac mini, the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air, and the iPad Pro- all filled with M1 processors. So what’s left? We have the Mac Pro, the 27-inch iMac, and the 16-inch MacBook Pro to make the transition to Apple Silicon. But the question is will they jump to M1 or M2 processors?

As per experts, the Mac Pro which is the most powerful machine offered by Apple will be the last one to move from Intel Pentium to Apple Silicon. And with the 27-inch iMac waiting its turn( the 24 -inch iMac just released), the 16-inch MacBook Pro is most probably the next hardware in line to be released soon.

Another conclusion derived from the poster images is that Apple is going to announce “Apple Glass” which would be a sort of Apple AR or VR headset. This new piece of hardware could be released in early 2022 as the developers would need time to develop applications compatible with it.
