What Is Security Tamper Protection Feature on Windows 10?

Method 1: Steps To Enable/Disable Tamper Protection Using Windows Security

If you want to enable or disable the Tamper Protection feature on Windows 10, use these steps:

Step 1: Go to the Start button.

Step 2: Type Windows Security in the search bar and press Enter.

Note: Press Windows and I to get Settings windows, then go to Update & Security, then click Windows Security from the left side of the pane.

Step 3: Go to Virus & threat protection.

Step 4: On Virus & threat protection, locate and click Manage settings option.

Step 5: Locate the Tamper protection switch and turn it off by clicking on the toggle switch.

Once done, you can make changes to Windows Security using another app or command line app such as PowerShell and Command Prompt.

If you wish to enable the Tamper Protection feature to ensure nothing could make changes to your Windows Security, then you need to go to Virus & threat protection section of Windows Security.

Press Windows and I together to get Settings.

Under Settings->Windows Settings-> Virus & threat protection-> Manage Settings-> Tamper Protection

Click on the toggle switch to turn the feature on.

Now Windows 10 is geared up to protect the security of your computer. Now neither users nor malicious apps could make changes to important settings such as behavior monitoring, real-time protection and more.

Method 2: Disable/ Enable Tamper Protection Using Registry Editor

You can Disable Tamper protection using Registry Editor if you want to make changes to Windows Security settings as you are using a third-party app.

Follow these steps to disable/enable Tamper Protection:

Step 1: Press Windows and R key together to get the Run window. Type Regedit and press the Enter key.

Step 2: Locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE-> Software-> Microsoft

Step 3: Under Microsoft, locate Windows Defender, then Features.

Step 4: On the right pane locate Tamper protection

Step 5: Double click on it to check the value data.

On the following window, ensure the value data is 0 to disable the feature and 1 if you want to enable the feature.
