Our phones have become our constant companions, wherever we go, whatever we do. We spend a considerable time of our day looking into our phones, so much so, that we always manage to take a small peek into our screens even in the middle of the night. But, did you know that using phone at night is not good for our health. This is because, the blue light emitted from the phone makes it stressful to look at the screen. Looking at the blue lit screen for prolonged time post sunset puts a unhealthy strain on the eyes.
To cater this problem, Google has come up with a solution in Nougat. The feature is called “Night Mode”, it scrubs off any blue light reflected from the device screen to ease out the strain on the eyes. This feature is same to flux for desktop computers and that to Apple’s Night Shift for iPhones. It turns on automatically if scheduled. You can even do it manually from the Quick Settings > enable Night Mode.
The feature is hidden in Android Nougat therefore, to activate the dormant setting you have to use an app. There is no need to root the device as the app is enough.
Note: The app will work only on Android 7.0 Nougat.
Step 1 Enable System UI Tuner
Swipe down consecutively from the top of the screen and enable hidden System UI Tuner. Now, tap and hold the gear icon and release it after 10 seconds.
You’ll be directly taken to the Settings menu. Here you see a “Congrats” message confirming that System UI Tuner is added to the Settings.
Step 2 Install Night Mode Enabler
Once System UI Tuner is enabled, you’re all set to install the app. The app is named Night Mode Enabler.
Step 3 Enable Night Mode
Once you install and open the app you will see a single button in the centre of the screen. Click on it to pull up hidden Night Mode settings menu in Android’s System UI Tuner.

Step 4 Add the Night Mode Quick Settings Tile
Night Mode has a default setting, which will automatically disable it in morning as per your location. As it gets darker outside the night mode effect continues to takes place. This is an automatic process, but if you want to do it manually, you can add a Quick Setting tile.
To do so, expand the Quick Settings menu again, by swiping down consecutively.
On expansion, tap “Edit” and scroll to the end of the list to toggle the Night Mode. Next, long-press the toggle, drag and drop it on to the dark gray area to place it.
You can now tap the toggle to disable or enable the Night Mode.

How to identify Night Mode is enabled?
Night Mode when enabled makes the display on screen appear slightly orange irrespective of the fact it is done manually or automatically. Why the color changes? It is because the Night Mode cancels out any blue light emitted from your phone’s display.
Troubleshooting
If you are unable to add the Quick Settings toggle for Night Mode, you can reset Quick Settings toggle and then can try re-adding the Night Mode switch.
To do so, head to the “Edit” menu in Quick Settings, tap on the three-dot menu button present at the extreme top-right corner and next choose “Reset.”
