One-Handed mode is a very useful feature in big screen smartphones. This feature is useful for those who use their phones while multi-tasking like eating food or doing some other work with other hand. One-Handed feature helps users easily navigate and type on their iPhones.
Enabling this feature will move onscreen keyboard little to the left or right, so that this feature can be used by both left-handed and right-handed users.
Usability
We have already seen a One-Handed mode on android phones in which whole screen shrinks down making it useable for the users.
This one-handed feature in iOS will shrink the size of keyboard without altering the size of screen.
When the size of the keyboard shrinks, it makes it usable for the user to reach all keys on the keyboard with one hand.
There are two different ways to enable one handed mode:
Enable One-Handed Mode from Settings
- Go to Settings.
- In Settings go to General.
- From General go to Keyboard.
- In Keyboard, tap on One-Handed Keyboard.
From One-Handed Keyboard, you can select your keyboard orientation according to your preferences.
Once it is changed, you will see your keyboard shift according to the choice you have made.
Directly Enable One-Handed Mode from Keyboard
- When typing, simply long press on the globe icon located near space bar.
- After long pressing on the globe icon, you will see a pop up in which you will see the option to change orientationof the keyboard.
Note: This is the fastest method for enabling one-handed keyboard, however, you will only see this option when you have enabled multiple keyboards.
If you don’t see the globe icon, you can follow the steps below to add a keyboard:
- Go to Settings.
- In Settings go to General.
- Go to Keyboard.
- Now tap on the Keyboard.
In this you will see the option to add a new keyboard. (You can also add Emoji keyboard.)
One-Handed mode is very convenient for those who prefer to multi task while using their phone or like a smaller keyboard. You can change keyboard layout according to the hand you use, as this feature can be used for both left-handed and right-handed user.
With the keyboard shrinking, its keys also shrink which makes easier to type.
