Apple is discreetly joining the realm of AI tools, aiming to rival the capabilities of OpenAI, Google, and Meta. Within the company, they’ve developed a chatbot affectionately referred to as “Apple GPT” by some engineers. While the precise plan for releasing this technology to the public is yet to be determined, speculations abound that Apple is gearing up for a substantial AI-related revelation in the coming year.
As the generative AI bandwagon gained momentum after OpenAI’s awe-inspiring launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, many tech giants swiftly joined the race. Surprisingly, Apple chose to remain conspicuously on the sidelines, steering clear of the frenzy. However, at Apple’s WWDC 2023, the company subtly showcased its pioneering work in state-of-the-art AI and machine learning.
AI Battle Royale: Apple’s New ‘Apple GPT’ AI Tool Surfaces
As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple has shifted its focus to prioritize AI development in recent months. They have gone ahead and built an “Ajax” framework designed for handling substantial language models akin to ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Bing, and Google’s Bard. Additionally, Apple has taken a step further by crafting its internal chatbot affectionately named “Apple GPT” in playful homage to ChatGPT.
Despite these significant strides, the company has not finalized a definitive strategy for bringing an AI product to consumers just yet.

As reported by Mark Gurman, Apple’s Ajax operates on the Google Cloud platform and was constructed using Google JAX, the machine-learning engine of the search giant. Leveraging the power of Ajax, Apple is now forging ahead in developing substantial language models and using it as the core infrastructure for their in-house ChatGPT-style application.

Within Apple, employees are actively utilizing the chatbot to aid in product prototyping. This versatile chatbot possesses the ability to summarize text and provide answers to questions, drawing from the knowledge it has acquired through its training process.
