A Guide To 4K And Ultra HD

The journey of television has been interesting from CRT to LCD and LED. Well, as a part of technology, it’s a never-ending research and development process. Presently, the market is hyped with haphazard terms like HD, FHD, Ultra HD and 4K that sound ornate and confusing at the same time. However, 4K and Ultra HD are the most talked about TV technologies that people look for. If you’re looking for a new TV or screen for desktop, you may probably want to know if one is better than the other.

Today, we’re going to explain the differences at the consumer level that are offered by 4K and Ultra HD televisions:

4K TV

4K is an ultra-high definition screen that emits a resolution of 4096 x 2160 pixels. 4K is a cinema standard product that was intended for professional usage. The term ‘4K’ is derived from DCI (Digital Cinema Initiatives), a group of motion picture studios that set the criteria to standardized a spec for the production and digital projection of 4K content. In this 4K projection, it denotes the fact that the pixel count horizontally is approximately four thousand.

To put it simple, 4K screen means a better and clearer picture, which is about 82,94,400 more pixels. This extra lot of pixels emits a sharper picture that conveys more information. If you wish to know the reason behind calling it a 4K, it is because the picture shown here is 4000 pixels wide. Although, TV industry uses the height of the resolution while naming it (like 1080) but they broke the monotony this time.

Ultra HD

Although, there is no big difference between a 4K and UHD, but the resolution. You may often find people saying that 4K and UHD is same, but that is not the case. The major difference between both the products is the resolution of pixels. A 4K emits 4096 X 2160 resolution, whereas an Ultra High Definition emits 3840 X 2160. It means, 4K and UHD are not interchangeable and it is a mistake to not to understand the functional differences between the two.

How Good is a 4K Screen?

4K screen is for enthusiasts, who love to watch their movies at a better resolution. It is obvious that those extra pixels are going to cost you extra bucks, but what you get in return is the satisfaction of watching a better image. The extra resolution through these pixels adds more definition and generates a life-like picture on your TV. It is easy to understand that more pixels per inch would render a better quality, and you can imagine what these extra 82,94,400 can do to it.

When you’re enjoying your 4K screen, make sure you’re sitting nearer to the television. The 4K screen comes with more pixels and better density among them, that lets you sit closer to the screen without spotting the individual pixels. When you sit closer, you can enjoy those pixels filling that space with better definition and have a more immersive experience.

Overall, 4K and UHD do have differences when it comes to picture quality and resolution. However, 4K is way ahead than a normal UHD TV with 8 million more pixels. If you’re a TV enthusiast, who loves to enjoy movies in a life-like picture quality, 4K TV is for you.
