The Many Uses Of Home Button On iPhone

From the very time when iPhone was first introduced to the world, the ‘Home Button’ has remained as the most persistent of iPhone’s functionalities. Gradually Apple has done lots of innovations with this button and finally it is now no more in its latest flagship phone. But on the devices previous to iPhone X it is a single button but enough to perform lots of tasks. There are many uses of iPhone Home Button maybe you are aware of some of its uses. In this article we are trying to list all the things together which can be done using iPhone Home Button.

Let us begin with some commonly known uses of the Home Button

  • Long press for Siri.
  • Double click to get the list of all the application running.
  • Press on lock screen to use a wake button and once screen is up you can access the music which is playing, the control centre and the notification centre.

Additionally, you can also access the following functions by triple pressing the Home Button.

  • Assistive Touch
  • Classic Invert Colors
  • Color Filters
  • Reduce White Point
  • VoiceOver
  • Smart Invert Colors
  • Switch Control
  • Zoom

By default you will find assistive touch configured for this setting. This means whenever you will triple click the Home Button it will show/hide assistive touch controls. To configure any other option from the given list you can go to Settings >General -> Accessibility -> Accessibility Shortcut. You can choose any of the given options for triple click. You can even select more than one option or can choose to select nothing.  If you will select more than one action it will show you a list of chosen actions on triple click.

Touch id And Reachability:

iPhone 5S onwards iPhones are equipped with touch id. Home button on these devices now have a Home Button with a fingerprint scanner. You can use Home Button to set your touch id and then that touch id can be used to unlock your iphone and to validate purchases on the app store.

From iphone 6 onwards you can double tap(Do not click just tap) on the Home Button to make the screen reachable to your thumb. You can resume to normal view by the same double tap on Home Button.


Home Button On iPhone 7 and 8 Series:

iPhone 7 onwards Home Button is no more a soft button but when you press it you get haptic feedback which make you feel like it is a soft button. You can perform all the Home Button tasks with it along with this you can change the feedback you get when you press the Home Button by going to Settings -> General -> Home Button.
