Google Maps Go: Lighter Version Of Google Maps Launched

In the first week of December when Google officially launched Android Oreo Go, (a lighter version operating system for the devices with less processing speed, RAM and space) then it has made clear that lighter version of many popular Google apps are just around the corner.

With Files Go and Google Go already making their presence on Play Store now it’s time for Google Maps Go. The app which can now be found on Play Store requires Android Version 4.1 and above. Also, it is expected that this app will consume 50% less space on your device.

Why Is the App Designed?

This question can strike many, when Google Map app is already available on Play Store then what’s the need for the lighter version. The answer for this is that the app is specially designed for those devices which are low on memory/processing and have unreliable network connectivity.

This means, even limited memory and untrustworthy network of devices cannot cause a problem in providing the real-time traffic updates, directions and location information.

Moreover, the app is available in more than 70 languages and includes precise maps in more than 200 countries and territories.

How Can You Use This App?

When we tried to install this app on our smartphones we got an error of incompatibility. We tried several devices with no luck!

However, with further research we found that the app is presently unavailable on any Android device available in the market.

The most possible reason for this may be that the app can only be compatible with devices with Android Go installed.

But if you want to check out the functionality of this lightweight app then you have to take an alternate route. You would need to copy and paste this link on your mobile or desktop browser to get the first look at this lighter version Google Map app.

With Google Maps Go and Files Go already live on Play Store, it is now expected that lighter version of other Google apps like Gmail, YouTube, Gboard, Play Store are also on the verge of their launch.
