Friday The 13th Special: Terrorizing Sci-Fi Horror Classics

Boo! Scared ya didn’t I? Friday the 13th has many origins. The massacre of the Knights Templar, the Salem witch trials or maybe it could just have been a day when everything went wrong. No one person can determine and tell us what the origins are. But, as time passed, this day has only gained infamy.

Over the years, this day has taken the cult status of a long weekend to binge watch classic horror movies and then hide under blankets when the going gets tough. This weekend, we suggest that you cancel all plans and give in to your hedonist cravings and settle in for some terrifying Sci-Fi horror movies. Order a large pizza, stock up on drinks, lock up all the doors, and wrap yourself into a blanket burrito. We assure you, you won’t be leaving that couch till Monday’s dawn.

Without further ado, here are, the must-watch classic Sci-Fi horror movies of all time.

1. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) :

Fear the Pod People! Don’t close your eyes, don’t fall asleep! This cult classic movie was originally released in 1956. Establishing the trope of less is more, the original spawned multiple sequels. This one is our personal favorite. The entire premises of replacing humans with blob or jelly like aliens, while looking exactly the same only devoid of emotions is the stuff of nightmares.

2. 28 Days Later (2002) :

Do not watch this movie expecting to see Sandra Bullock. You shall be horrifically mistaken. 28 Days Later is one realistic Sci-Fi movie. The Rage Virus that the chimpanzees are infected with could easily be any test animal that is released in the open. The isolation of Jim resonates with many. This classic movie is a must watch not just for the gore but also to reaffirm hope.

3. Slither (2006) :


So here is a remake that is times better than the original A perfect blend of black humor and unnerving horror, Slither works wonders in comparison to its previous film. An alien plague, turning residents into zombies and all forms of mutant monsters is content enough to make a classic horror film. The dash of humor in such trying times only makes one realize just how humane one needs to be in the times of extreme crisis.

4. Children of the Damned (1964):

Sinister children! An evergreen classic horror theme, it makes one question what is greater. Nature or Nurture? What right does man have to interfere with evolution? Who’s more scared, the adults or the children? The most important reason to watch this movie is because Sinister children whose eyes light up!!

5. The Fly (1986):

Talk about taking prosthetic make up to the next level. The source from where in came the classic quote “Be afraid. Be very afraid”, this movie is not for the faint of heart. The scary transformation of the handsome Jeff Goldblum into the Fly is enough reason for many a sleepless nights, added with multiple instances of carnage and mutilation, this movie is guaranteed to scare the bejeezus out of us!

6. The Mist (2007):

Aah! Stephen King! You evil genius. Making us wonder what if one day when you are busy picking groceries at your local supermarket ends up turning into an alien invasion? What do you do when a mist in not merely a sign of a change in weather but discover that it contains something frightening and intent on killing humans? How do you beat something you can’t even see properly? The confusion adds to the thrill. A must watches for all Sci-Fi lovers.

There you have it folks! Here are few of the must watch Sci-fi movies to watch and enjoy this Friday the 13th. Just make sure that you have locked all doors and windows and even the window in your basement and attic. Cause BOO!!
