Clash of Instant Messaging Titans: WhatsApp v/s Snapchat

When it comes to competition, then both WhatsApp and Snapchat are in a head-to-head battle with each other. Both the applications are being loved and used by a lot of people. Yet they have their own set of pros and cons. WhatsApp is a text messaging app where you can share photos, videos, files and create groups and broadcast message lists whereas Snapchat allows you to share snaps/photos or videos (known as stories) instantly with all your friends.

So, which application is better than the other? Here are some app facts to help you decide.

1. “Typing” Status…

This is one common trait of both the applications. When you start typing any message, it tells the other person that you’re typing so that the they can wait before sending the next message to avoid any confusion.

3. Contact Sharing

You can easily share your WhatsApp contact with your friends. All you need to do is attach a contact card within your chat. However, you cannot do this over snapchat yet.

4. Sharing Photos and Videos

With snapchat you can easily share photos and videos with your friends (with front and rear camera both). Even WhatsApp allows you to do all three as well. However, the snaps (or photos) which you share via Snapchat get deleted in a short period of time but in WhatsApp, they can be saved and stored in backup.

5. Automatic Contact List

Snapchat allows you to add a contact after you have accepted their request, while in WhatsApp contacts are added automatically.

6. Doodling

Both the apps allow you to add captions, emotions, draw on them etc. Also, the two-way camera allows you to be creative during snaps and video chats.

7. Video Chats

Both the applications support one-on-one video conversations.

8. Personalization

On WhatsApp you can set your own wallpaper, theme, and even install packages to change color and theme of keyboards whereas Snapchat allows you to personalize its QR Code or add a unique animated selfie for your account.

9. Web

WhatsApp Web allows you to connect through devices such as tablets, PCs, and laptops. Snapchat is application restricted i.e. you need to download the application and enjoy its benefits on-the-go.

10. Search Option

If you need to find something specific on WhatsApp, you can search your data for certain keywords. However, Snapchat does not support this facility.

11. Status and Stories

Last but not the least, in the latest WhatsApp update it now lets you add stories as status. Now you won’t see any boring one liner status messages saying “available” or “busy”, instead you can now view an entire animated story of your friends and family (just like snapchat stories).

Both social applications are high in demand and each has its own pros and cons. Which one is made for you? Share your feedback in the comments section below.
