Although a little late, Google, seems to have finally paced up with Amazon in the smart home speakers market.

This, all new feature, which initially rolled out in U.S., Australia, Canada and the U.K with English as default language will soon be introduced in other parts of the world in various languages.

So, next time you are on your way home from office, let your family members know by saying “Ok Google, broadcast I’m on my way home!”. It’s as simple as that!

How to Get Started

To start with, you can use this feature both ways, i.e. you can broadcast your messages from one Google Home device to others and from your smartphone to Google Home devices using Google Assistant.

Broadcast From Google Home Device To Other Google Home Devices

To broadcast a message, one should have two or more Google Home devices i.e. either Google Home or Google Home Mini. A combination of Google Home and Google Home Mini will also work.  Also, all the Google home devices should be updated to firmware version 1.26.93937 or higher and use same Wi-Fi network.

Moreover, any one member of the house needs to sign into each of Google Home device. You need to take care that Do Not Disturb mode is turned off.

Broadcast From Your Smartphone To Google Home Devices:

If you are broadcasting the message from your Android phone then it should run Android 6.0 or higher; Google app 6.13 or higher and with 1.5 GB of memory and 720p screen resolution.  The phone should have, Google Play Services and English as it’s default language.

For those with iPhone, the device should be running on iOS 9.3 or higher, along with Google Assistant app.

You will also need to be signed into the same Google Account on your smartphone and on the Google Home device(s).

The message that you broadcast will play on all Google Home devices that are signed into the same Google Account.

As of now, Amazon Alexa has a hold on three-fourth of the smart home speaker market, so for now it’s wait and watch, if Google will be able to make a place for itself.
