A to Z of Pokemon GO: It’s the new Viral!

Tech News

Pokemon was a big thing during the 90s. With the insurgence of Mobile games, the Nintendo franchise lost a bit of steam. But guess what, Pikachu and gang has come back with a bang!

What the fuss is all about?

The mobile version of the game which has taken the world by storm is called Pokemon Go. If the hysteria and bizarre clips strewn all across the net are anything to go by, the Pokemon-mania is here to stay, at least for some time.

Pokémon Go uses your phone’s GPS and clock to detect where and when you are in the game and make Pokémon “appear” around you (on your phone screen) so you can go and catch them. As you move around, different and more types of Pokémon will appear depending on where you are and what time it is. The idea is to encourage you to travel around the real world to catch Pokémon in the game. (This combination of a game and the real world interacting is known as “augmented reality.”

This excerpt from Vox Magazine sums up the game pretty accurately. Now you know what the mad running around in the office or the park is all about!

For those of you who haven’t downloaded the game yet, it’s free for Android and iOS.

Why are people going crazy?

Several reasons actually. Everyone’s at least ‘heard’ of Pokemon even if they didn’t play the games during the 90s. Cartoons and merchandise ensured that the exotic monsters were known to all and sundry. So Pokemon Go is part nostalgia, part trend, and part curiosity.

For a fan, Pokemon Go is a lot about the ‘real world’ experience. It’s a natural continuation of what game addicts expected Pokemon to be when the smart phones arrived. The animals all but disappeared when mobile gaming invaded our imagination. A sudden revival makes Pokemon Go a much bigger success than it would have been, had it been introduced earlier.  There’s this good old saying, “Absence makes the heart grow fonder!”

As for the mobile gaming generation, it’s just something new and cool. And it’s free. How can it get any better?

Yeah, there’s a but! A big one at that. Beware of FAKERS. With a game that is poised to topple Twitter in terms of daily users, a security threat was expected. A Tech Crunch Article states…

Security researchers at Proofpoint spotted a malicious Pokémon Go app in the wild that’s infected with a remote access tool called “DroidJack,” which would give attackers full control over a victim’s phone.

There’s no need to panic just yet, however.

The researchers said they hadn’t actually found any reports of the malware having infected users – they only discovered that the malware exists, and that it had been uploaded to an online file storage service in the form of an APK file.

The malware had not made it to the official Google Play Store, either. That means there’s no risk that someone may have unintentionally downloaded the app from app store, thinking it was the real deal.

However, you might just be the first victim. So be careful while you download the game.

Also, don’t die or get robbed while playing.

Sure Nintendo’s stock price has skyrocketed; Pokemon Go is the most talked about thing on Twitter (and elsewhere). And there also have been reports of a teenage girl finding a dead body in a bathroom and police in Missouri claimed that four suspected robbers tried to lure victims with the promise of finding a Pokemon!

How to improve the Pokemon Go experience?

Over-worked Androids will hang if you are trying to play this high-adrenaline game. What are cleaning apps for then?

There are plenty available on Play store absolutely free of cost. What sets Smart Phone Cleaner a winner among all those are two extremely game-oriented features:

Game Booster: We have all faced the annoying mid-way stoppage while playing our favorite games. Game Booster makes the possibility of such ‘hangs’ almost nil. It manages the functionality of your android phone to give you a smooth gaming experience. You definitely don’t want to lose sight of your Pokemon while on the run!

Battery Saver: This gives you specific details of which app is consuming how much battery strength. You can enhance your gaming experience by shutting down apps that are using way too much of it.

So go play! But be safe.
